My Experience at SRA

By 26 March 2020SRA BLOG

SRA for me was an amazing experience, I was able to learn from talented artists within the creative industry/ community we all know and love. Personally, I definitely had my highs and lows. Makeup hasn’t always been part of my life; growing up with 5 brothers, you could definitely say I was a tomboy. This newfound love I now have for makeup is crazy! To have only picked up a makeup brush 2 years prior to me studying just blows me away. I can’t believe the progress I have made as an artist in such a small amount of time. To say this course helped me is an understatement! I blossomed not only as a person, but also as an artist. I gained so much confidence in my work and myself! I would 100% recommend this course to anyone who wants to become a makeup artist.

Work Experience

During my 17 weeks, I was lucky enough to have been given several work experience opportunities. My first was express makeup on clients at a women’s charity event, then second time it was a complete different experience! I was given the amazing opportunity to work on the Cecilia Kang Couture fashion show! There were 18 models for this show each requiring hair, makeup and touch ups right before they went out on stage! Okay, so I know it sounds easy but we had about 8-9 of us artists working in a small space with the models. I was particularly proud of this work experience opportunity because I managed to wok well under pressure and doing 3 models hair, and one full face gave me a lot of confidence.

Even when graduating from SRA, they still stayed in touch and reached out when relevant work experience became available that they thought I was suitable for. Personally, I will always take the work experience opportunity I am offered as it helps me become more confident, get my foot in the door and collaborate with others in the industry.

My conclusion:

Anyways before I start to ramble on, and loose track of what I’m actually talking about, I’ll end my blog here. Without a doubt in my mind, I will always recommend to anyone who is wanting to become a qualified makeup artist to study at SRA. The times were so convenient for me as a mother, starting at 9 am and finishing at 1:30 pm allowed me to also focus on my home life and son, who will always be my number one priority. I am currently working towards my Level 4 Certificate with SRA, so I’ll be sure to update you guys once I graduate, till next time.
